What is HireOrSell? An overview for small agencies and service businesses
HireOrSell puts projects, clients, time tracking, invoicing and team collaboration in one place. See what it does, who it suits, how the parts connect and what the plans include.

HireOrSell is a business management platform for agencies, consultancies and service businesses. It puts project management, a CRM, time tracking, invoicing and team collaboration in one place, so the work, the hours and the invoices sit together. This post explains what it does, who it suits, how the parts connect in a made-up example and what the plans include.
What it is
Some small agencies run on a mix of tools: one for tasks, one for hours, one for contacts and one for invoices. The details then live in different places and someone has to copy them across by hand.
HireOrSell takes the opposite approach. Projects, clients, time, money and messages share one system, and a client record links to the projects you run for that client. Time entries integrate with invoicing, which is the link that matters most when you bill for hours.
Who it suits, and who it may not
HireOrSell is aimed at agencies and service businesses that sell their time or their projects. If you track client work, log hours and send invoices, the pieces fit your day.
It is not the right choice for everyone. A team that needs only one narrow thing, for example only a CRM for a large sales team, may be better served by a specialist tool built for that single job. Check which of your problems are about the whole workflow and which are about one task before you decide.
What you can do with it
Here is each area, described the way the product describes itself:
- Projects. Project dashboards, Gantt charts with drag-and-drop scheduling, milestones, budget tracking, progress monitoring and role-based permissions for managing a team.
- Clients and CRM. Client profiles, contacts, communication history, email integration, task management, pipelines, leads and revenue analytics. Clients link to projects.
- Time tracking. Clock in and out, manual entry, break management and optional GPS verification. You can mark time as billable or non-billable and log it against projects and milestones.
- Financials. Invoices, expense tracking, profit and loss reports and other financial reports.
- Calendar. Month, week, day, Gantt and timeline views, two-way Google Calendar sync, drag-and-drop rescheduling, meeting and milestone tracking and RSVP management.
- Team. Messaging and collaboration for your team.
- AI assistant and lead search. Smart contact suggestions and automated follow-up reminders, plus lead search. These are part of Pro and above.
Security features include authentication, Google and Microsoft single sign-on, role-based access control, encryption and organization-level data isolation.
Worked example: how the pieces connect
Say a five-person design agency wins a website project. This is a made-up example to show how the areas work together.
- The prospect starts as a lead in the pipeline. When they sign, you record them as a client and link the project to that client.
- The project budget is $12,000, split into three milestones. Each milestone gets $12,000 / 3 = $4,000.
- The agency charges $80 an hour, so a $4,000 milestone allows $4,000 / $80 = 50 hours.
- The team logs time against the first milestone and marks it billable. After 42 hours the work cost is 42 x $80 = $3,360.
- That leaves $4,000 - $3,360 = $640, which is 8 hours. Comparing hours logged with the hours the budget allows tells the project lead how much room is left before the milestone is finished.
- When the milestone is done, the logged time supports the invoice, so nobody rebuilds the hours from memory.
The same chain also shows where hours go missing when they are tracked in a separate tool. Our list of billable hour leaks covers the common ones.
The plans in brief
Prices as of October 2026. Check the pricing page for current prices before you decide.
- Free: $0. Up to 2 team members, up to 100 contacts, up to 3 projects and basic reporting. It does not include time tracking, lead search, the AI assistant or priority support.
- Pro: $5 per seat per month. Unlimited team members, contacts and projects, advanced reporting, full time tracking, lead search, the AI assistant and email support.
- Enterprise: custom pricing. Unlimited everything, custom integrations, advanced analytics, single sign-on with SAML, a dedicated account manager, priority AI access and 24/7 priority support.
For example, a team of five on Pro pays 5 seats x $5 = $25 per month. A team of three cannot fit on Free, because that plan allows 2 team members.
How to decide
Answer these three questions:
- Do you sell hours or projects to clients, and invoice for them?
- Do you lose time copying details between a task tool, a time tool and an invoice tool?
- Does one narrow tool already solve your biggest problem?
If the first two are yes and the third is no, an all-in-one system is worth a trial. Before you compare any tool, know your numbers. How to set your agency's hourly rate shows the formula, and the free hourly rate calculator does the arithmetic for you.
Next step
List the tools you use today for tasks, hours, contacts and invoices, and write down what each one costs per month. Then count how many times a week you copy the same detail from one of them to another. That number tells you how much a single system could save.
